Polycarbonate Roofing for Industrial & Commercial Buildings

Long-span, glare-free daylight. Minimal sealant maintenance.

Large-span polycarbonate translucent roofing on Indian commercial building — Coxwell Multicell
FIG. 01 · InstalledPolycarbonate Roofing for Industrial & Commercial Buildings
01 · Overview

Polycarbonate roofing combines the structural performance of a standing-seam metal roof with the daylighting quality of a skylight — across the entire roof span. It eliminates the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours, reduces thermal load versus opaque metal, and delivers long-term service life without repainting, re-coating, or sealant maintenance.

Coxwell has delivered 3,200+ polycarbonate roofs across India and the UAE — from 50 m² residential lean-to covers to 18,000 m² stadium canopies.

Primary

Multicell

The most-specified polycarbonate roofing system in India. Double-tooth interlocking creates a mechanical leak-proof joint — not a sealant joint. Available in 6–30 mm. Suitable for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure projects.

Also consider

X-Fix

7-layer diagonal X-structure for industrial roofs and large civic spans. Greater rigidity per mm than Multicell. Dry-fit installation. Maximum purlin spacing 1,200 mm. Specified on India's largest stadium canopy.

06 · FAQ

Common questions.

What thickness of polycarbonate is best for industrial roofing in India?+

For most industrial buildings in India, 16 mm Multicell is the standard specification. It provides a U-value of 1.9 W/m²K, handles standard purlin spacing of 600–900 mm, and is certified to all applicable Indian and international load standards. For larger spans (1,000–1,200 mm between purlins), 20–25 mm or the X-Fix system is recommended.

How long does polycarbonate roofing last in Indian conditions?+

Coxwell polycarbonate roofing carries a 10-year manufacturer's warranty against manufacturing defects, subject to standard terms. The UV protection is co-extruded into the panel surface — not coated on — which means it cannot peel or wash off.

Does polycarbonate roofing overheat buildings in the Indian summer?+

It depends on the tint specification. Clear panels transmit both visible light and infrared heat — suitable for factories and carparks where heat gain is acceptable. For occupied spaces, Solar Ice or Ice tints reflect the infrared spectrum responsible for heat gain while maintaining daylight quality. For maximum heat control with premium performance, Prism is the Coxwell system specifically engineered for climate control.

Can polycarbonate roofing be used on curved or vaulted structures?+

Yes. Multicell and X-Fix panels are cold-bendable to a minimum radius of approximately 15× the panel thickness. For a 16 mm panel, the minimum cold-bend radius is approximately 2.4 m. Tighter radii require factory hot-forming. Vault and eye-shape profiles are among Coxwell's most common specifications — including 5,239 m² of vault roofing at Sarai Kale Khan Metro Interchange, Delhi.

Is polycarbonate roofing approved for government (CPWD/PWD) projects?+

Yes. Coxwell has delivered polycarbonate roofing to CPWD, PWD, AAI (Airports Authority of India), Indian Railways, NBCC, and multiple state PWDs. IS 14434 references and product documentation are available on request.

What is the minimum pitch for a polycarbonate roof?+

The minimum recommended pitch is 5° (approximately 1:12) for all Coxwell standing-seam systems. A 5° pitch ensures drainage and prevents ponding in the panel channels.

How is polycarbonate roofing different from fibreglass or PVC sheets?+

Polycarbonate (PC) has significantly higher impact resistance than fibreglass and UV co-extruded grades are designed for long-term weathering resistance. PVC sheets are cheaper but yellow within 3–5 years in Indian UV conditions and have poor impact resistance.
