Coxwell is looking for a Product Development Engineer to take new product ideas from brief to physical prototype. This role sits at the intersection of polymer chemistry, extrusion engineering, and commercial viability — and you will be expected to own at least one full product development cycle within your first 90 days. You will design formulations, run production trials on our extrusion lines, define test protocols, interpret results, and produce the cost and feasibility analysis that tells us whether a product is ready to commercialise. This is a hands-on role; you will be on the production floor as much as at a desk.
What you will do
- Develop polycarbonate formulations using UV stabilisers, flame retardants, pigments, and other additives
- Design co-extrusion layer structures for new panel and sheet products
- Run pilot production trials on Coxwell's extrusion lines and produce sample batches (50–100 sqm)
- Define mechanical and optical test requirements; interpret lab data and refine formulations based on performance gaps
- Produce material specifications, trial plans, test protocols, and cost analyses for each development brief
- Analyse cost per kg and assess scalability feasibility before recommending commercialisation
- Support documentation required to move approved products into full production
What we are looking for
- B.Tech in Polymer Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or Materials Engineering
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience in polymer extrusion or compounding
- Experience with masterbatch formulation
- Practical understanding of UV and thermal stabilisation in polycarbonate
- Experience running production trials, not just lab work — you need to be comfortable on the floor
90-day deliverables
- Select one active innovation brief and produce a full development plan
- Run at least two formulation trials on the production line
- Produce a physical prototype sheet sample
- Submit a cost and performance feasibility report for leadership review
